The Red Dot Design Award dates back to 1955 and is currently considered to be the world’s largest and most outstanding design award. More than 14,000 participants from 70 countries competed in 2011 for the Red Dot recognition.
In 2012, 1,800 companies and designers from 58 countries registered in the “red dot award: product design” category and were given a chance to prove their design ability against famous designers and emerging talents in an international comparison. 4,515 registrations were received in 19 different categories in the competition. But only the best were awarded the prize.
Due to the increasing competitive pressure on the international markets, it is more important than ever for manufacturers today to distinguish themselves from competitors by providing high quality products rather than simply pursuing an aggressive pricing policy.
Both designers and manufacturers benefit from the award: they use Red Dot to present their qualities to their customers and to emphasize their own strengths.
The international jury awarded the Inhalo DSI with a "red dot" award for its high design quality.
